Fret Beats Launches Staff Notation Course

Fret Beats Launches New Course

Fret Beats School of Guitar launches a new course on Staff Notation, Music reading for guitar. The course has commenced from 1st April 2014. Student who posses basic knowledge of guitar can enroll for the course.

What is Staff Notation?

In Western musical notation, the staff, or stave, is a set of five horizontal lines and four spaces that each represent a different musical pitch. Appropriate music symbols, depending upon the intended effect, are placed on the staff according to their corresponding pitch or function.
The absolute pitch of each line for a non-percussive stave is determined by the placement of an appropriate clef symbol at the appropriate vertical position on the left-hand side of the staff. For example, the treble clef, also known as the G clef, is placed upon the second line. Using the staff notation we can represent various details of the melody to be played, like:

- Time Signature (Represents rhythm pattern)
- Tempo (The speed at which notes are progressing. Tempo is usually measured in beats per minute or bpm.)
- Note Duration (A note could be represented in various forms depending upon its length, for example whole note, half note or quarter note etc.

Thus one can say Staff Notation is a symbolic representation of music. Musicians or instrumentalist keep the sheet of music written in form of Staff Notation in front of them while they are playing the instrument. For illustration just check how Twinkle Twinkle Little Star rhyme could be represented on the Staff Notation:
